In this VFR - GPS Flight Plan we take off from the airport of Juba (HSSJ) [South Sudan], fly to the southeast in order to overfly the Kinyeti mountain and then land in the airport of Kapoeta  (HSKP) [South Sudan].

Find below a short extract and screenshots of the main points of the route. In this journey around Africa I have used the Cessna 172S (Skyhawk)

Take off from the runway 31 of the airport of Juba.

Juba Airport (IATA: JUB, ICAO: HJJJ) is an airport serving Juba, the capital city of South Sudan. The airport is located 5 km (3 mi) northeast of the city's central business district, on the western banks of the White Nile. The city and airport are located in South Sudan's Central Equatoria State.

It is one of the two international airports in South Sudan, the other being Malakal Airport. Juba Airport handles international and local airlines, cargo air traffic and chartered commercial flights. It is also used by the South Sudanese military and by the United Nations UNMISS, UN Humanitarian Air Services UNHAS, World Food Program WFP, ICRC and many NGOs for relief flights for the country. Overflying Juba and the White Nile when taking to the southeast.

Flying near Lomiki mountain.

We can already see the Kinyeti mountain in the distance, in the group called Lomariti or Lolobai mountains.

Getting closer to the Kinyeti mountain.

The peak of the Kinyeti.

Mount Kinyeti is the highest peak in South Sudan. It is located in the Imatong Mountains in Ikwoto County of Eastern Equatoria, near the Ugandan border. Kinyeti has an elevation of 3,187 metres (10,456 ft) above sea level. The group of high mountains that contain Kinyeti, extending to the border with Uganda, are sometimes called the Lomariti or Lolobai mountains.

The lower parts of the mountain were covered with lush forest. These are the most northern forests of the East African montane forest ecoregion. The summit is rocky, with montane grassland and scattered, low ericaceous scrubs, low subshrub and herbs in rock crevices. One of the first Europeans to visit the mountain was the botanist Thomas Ford Chipp, who discovered Coreopsis Chippii near the summit. (*1)

Leaving the Kinyeti peak behind and starting the descend.

A steep slope at this side of the mountain.

We say goodbye to the Lomariti or Lolobai massif.

The Dongotona mountain.

Overflying Cuhudum.

Trying to find the Boya Hills, that we were not able to locate precisely on the map.

Are these the Boya Hills?

Final approach to the dirt runway 14 of the airport of Kapoeta. This airport does not have neither ATC nor any service.

Kapoeta is a town in South Sudan. It is located in Kapoeta South County, in Eastern Equatoria State, in southeastern South Sudan.

The town lies on the east bank of the Singaita River. The post at Kapoeta was established by Captain Knollys, who reached the river in January 1927. This location lies approximately 275 kilometres (171 mi), by road, east of Juba, the capital of South Sudan, and the largest city in that country. The town sits at an elevation of 677 metres (2,221 ft) above sea level.

As of August 2008, the population of Kapoeta was estimated at about 7,000. (*1)
