Update October 28, 2024: Greetings from Rotuma! A little update about the situation here: After I arrived, the weather had been quite bad for about a week, with heavy rains and wind. This delayed the setup of the main Spiderbeam antenna, as well as the power side (diesel generator + solar PV array). There were also many logistical challenges, such as the need to refurbish coax that had been left on the island since 2022, setting up a space for the shack, and the most recent one being a sudden failure of the hose from the fuel tank to the engine of the diesel generator,... Update October 29, 2024: Wow, the contest was fun again. Amazing high band conditions except for those likely CME related periods of no propagation from my part of the world. Remember, I need 3-5 hops to take part in the party. The low bands were a no show on day one but a little better on day two. No QSO on 160m, not even ZL or VK. The weather was hell here with rain and very gusty winds. I did a SOAB low power again but assisted this year. All the time I was eyeing the battery status. With no sun at all the battery would not fully rechage. Together with those CME relate... [Read more]

Update October 29, 2024: Operation has finished with more than 95000 QSO in the log.
Update October 25, 2024: They report that the RX situation is extremely difficult right at the equator. All receiving antennas such as BOG, DHDL and loop on ground have S9 noise. CW is not possible on 160m, and extremely difficult aon 80m. They always try to use other transmitting antennas as RX antennas, sometimes with success, but the noise level is very high on low bands. They also say 40m / 30m signals are very weak, S0-S3, so better to call not with high speed ... [Read more]

Update October 30, 2024: Having set-up a delta-loop, Jacek is now up and running on 80m (SWR is good at 1:17), however at the moment even 40m is quite difficult to work EU “pistols”, so 80m may be a non-starter.

From the IOTA-chasers mail list: Weather permitting, and assuming no flight cancellation, I am authorized to be active from NA-066 San Nicolas Island November 08-12. It is the most remote island in California (farthest from the mainland, 98 km). Grid Loc: DM03gg. While NA-066 is relatively common, San Nicolas is arguably the rarest California island, due to its status as a sensitive US Naval facility. While Saint George Reef (NA-184), White Rock (NA-187), and Los Farallones de los Frailes (NA-178) were each activated twice, and relatively recently, the only documented operation... [Read more]

I am planning a DX IOTA pedition from Camiguin Island, (OC-235). If realized, it will be the first 50 MHz activation from the island. For the on-air frequencies, I plan to use a HexBeam antenna, allowing operation on six bands: 14, 18, 21, 24, 28, and 50 MHz and The main mode of operation is planned to be FT8. Notably, there has been no recorded amateur radio activity on the 50 MHz band from Camiguin Island. Therefore, 50 MHz activation from Camiguin would provide a highly rare and exciting new opportunity for IOTA chasers. We are raising funds through crowdfunding. ... [Read more]
